In this blog the writer is discussing self-discovery and the daunting university life.
No.1: You’re not a goody two shoes.
As badly as you would like to believe you're a good girl, you will soon find your actions contradicting that. What can I say? University does that to you. You’ll find yourself constantly looking for acceptance that you will do crazy things. “Huh? Really?” Yes, really. Peer pressure is a real thing. And with all the new found freedom that you get in university, you’re bound to exploit it, trust me. You’ll be lying to your parents about your timetable before you even know it.
No.2: You’re a snake! (What??)
This one might come as a shocker, but try to make a sense out of it. A man is defined by the company he keeps and if you’re surrounded by snakes, what does that make you? Yeah you guessed it… There’s nothing wrong with it though. Well at least as long as you don’t get caught. I mean you have to survive somehow ‘if you can’t beat them, join them’.
No.3: You’re not as ugly as you think you are. (Huh?)
Don’t take this as a personal attack, a lot of students come into the university with insecurities and low self-esteem. If you have that, then be prepared to be stripped of it because no matter how you look, you are bound to get a lot of attention.
No.4: You’re clueless!
You might come to the university thinking you have it all together but that’s about to change… completely. All the hard work that you have done in the past is gone now and you have to rebuild from the scratch. Even if you pay attention to the teacher in class and make notes, once you get home NOTHING will make sense. Everything you know about people and society will change as well. Prepare yourself for some real drama.
No.5: Discover your inner demon…
You probably know about that little darkness inside you, well guess what. The university will make sure to bring it out. All that stress and pressure the university makes you go through, sooner or later will help the demon find its way to the real world.
Don’t let your thirst for good grades pull through. Don’t over burden yourself with the work load of your class project, particularly when you are paired with incompetent people. You’ll eventually come to a point where you would stop caring about everything. That’s why I called it a demon because if you don’t get out of this state, you’re going to get too comfortable and this will ruin your life. The stress never reduces and you’ll end up way worse than where you started from, however your true self will find its way back to the real word…. Hopefully.
But don’t be discouraged, I mean look at all the graduates, they turned out fine. There’s hope for you too.
